Resitting the ICAEW Case Study?
28 April 2021
If you are one of the many ICAEW students that did not secure the pass you hoped for in the November Beal Case Study exam, now is the time to put together your plan for passing. Our simple 3 step thought process can help get you to where you need to be ahead of the July 2021 exam.

Step one: Mindset
Failing any exam is hard. Failing the ICAEW Case Study exam, when you are so close to attaining your ACA, can feel disastrous.
You need to step back and recognise that although this is a setback, you have the technical knowledge and experience that underpins this exam.
What you need now is the understanding of how to combine the above and present it in line with the examiners’ expectations. The great news is… This exam technique can be taught.
You can pass the Case Study exam, believe in yourself.
Step two: Learn from mistakes
As an accountant, you are well versed in analysing data to identify what went wrong, what went well and how things can be improved.
Your approach to your resit should be no different.
Get your ICAEW Marks Feedback and identify the elements you did well in and where you struggled. Use our free Beal Review Toolkit to help you analyse the data and create a plan for passing in July.
Step three: Get the tools you need – don’t rely on what you are given
This is the final exam you will take before you become a chartered accountant. What level of investment is that worth?
There are many tuition providers who provide a free resit and this no cost option might feel like the only choice.
But here’s the thing…
If you failed using the full course, is a cut-down resit course going to help you?
At Training-by-Eos we are proud of our reputation for helping resit students pass the Case Study exam. We do not offer a free resit course – our 10 years experience shows us resit students deserve more support, not less.
This is why it is so important to understand what went wrong, so you can see where the gap in your tuition is, and address it.
- Do you need some extra support in understanding how to approach the Case Study exam?
- Did you create a robust set of notes from the AI?
- Was your working knowledge of the AI sufficient or could you benefit from additional practise using Mock Exams?
Having to resit your Case Study exam is frustrating. This is not where you wanted to be, now is not the time to dwell on that. Now is the time to use your skills as an accountant, analyse what went wrong, draw your conclusions and think about what recommendations you can give yourself to pass.
